Odd Spot

Joburg restaurants are generally one of two species: sidewalk spots or shopping mall-escape-from-screaming-toddlers-and-teens spots. There are exceptions of course, but not many. Odd Cafe in Greenside is a newish addition to the sidewalk variety, and a welcome one at that.

As sunny and lovely as the sidewalk-restaurant havens of Greenside and Parkhurst are, the godforsaken lack of parking makes you a) Wonder if you might as well not just move to Cape Town where the pains of parallel parking and parking-hunting are at least balanced out by a view of the ocean and b) Debate why you even bother to eat out when the long walk back to your car will basically eliminate what you’ve just consumed and cause you to stop at Woolies for a replenishing power-snack. Unless of course the God of Parking smiles upon your face. But for the rest of us – this is why we eat at malls. There’s parking.

Back to Odd Cafe! (Once you’ve found parking).

Though not quite as odd as the name would like to suggest, Odd Cafe is certainly quirky and a little off-beat. Their menu boasts some interesting and different combinations of flavours that breath a bit of fresh air onto the cafe scene.

Ok, so maybe it is a little odd.

What’s great about Odd Cafe is that they host art, design and graffiti exhibitions every so often, so if you keep an eye on their blog you’ll be kept up to date with what’s happening.

Or you can just observe the furniture.

Odd Cafe is located at Shop 1, 116 Greenway Street, Greenside, Johannesburg.
